A Caregiver at Heart: Sarena Pundt's Inspiring Journey in Respiratory Therapy and Beyond

“I’ve always been a caregiver, ever since I was little. I just like to take care of people,” says Sarena Pundt, RRT, RRT-ACCS, reflecting on her lifelong passion that led her to a fulfilling career in respiratory therapy. As the Director of Respiratory Therapy at Lake Charles Memorial Health Hospital in Louisiana, Sarena’s journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication and compassion.
In 2018, Sarena faced a personal battle with kidney cancer, discovered incidentally during a routine check-up. The diagnosis was a shock, but she confronted it with the same resilience she brings to her work. “It was definitely divine intervention,” she reflects. Having been a patient herself, Sarena’s empathy for those she cares for deepened, reinforcing her commitment to providing the highest quality of care.
Her motivation comes from a deep well of empathy and a desire to make a meaningful difference. “The patient could be my family member, friend, or neighbor. If they’re here, they’re in need, and whether it’s something major or minor, I want to be there for them the same way I would expect someone to be there for me,” she explains.
Sarena also values the collaborative spirit of her workplace and the strong support she receives from partners like US Med-Equip. “I’ve worked with USME for a long time and interacted with many different people over the years. Everyone has been amazing to work with. If I need anything or have questions, they’ve been incredible and very responsive,” she shares.
Sarena Pundt’s journey is a powerful reminder of the profound impact healthcare professionals have on their communities, embodying the true spirit of a healthcare hero.
